How much do new windows really cost?

Since new windows pay for themselves in energy savings, return on investment, and decreased maintenance, why put it off another year? Start enjoying the beauty today!

How much do windows cost? Windows come in all shapes, sizes, and styles. Their prices can also range greatly depending on the glass and materials used to create the frames. This includes vinyl, wood, aluminum, fiberglass, or composite. Home Depot’s recently posted a cost guide. Double or Single Hung vinyl replacement windows can cost anywhere from $800 to $1400 each. Of course, the materials used to create windows will drive up or down the cost. Aluminum is on the lower end of the scale, and composites are on the higher end.

According to Home Advisor 2021, “A single window unit runs $300 to $1,200 for standard sizes. Custom and bay windows cost $2,000 on average. Labor costs $150 to $800 per window or about $40 per hour.” Remember that window replacement does not have to be an all-or-nothing proposition. To save money, a homeowner can replace only those that need it the most. You can also add an attractive specialty window in the front of the home for added curb appeal.

Remodeling Magazine’s 2021 Cost vs. Value Report evaluated wood and vinyl window replacement.

“To replace 10 3 x 5-foot double-hung windows with more energy efficient, low-E (low emissivity) versions would cost $23,219 for wood windows, with a return on investment of 67.4%. Doing the same with vinyl replacement windows would cost $19,385 with an ROI of 68.6%. Remember that while top-of-the-line windows certainly have their place in the luxury real estate market, it’s unnecessary to bust your budget on high-end specialty windows for more modest properties.”

(At True Crew, our goal is to offer mid/upper range standard vinyl and composite windows with the best reputations and efficiencies for under $1,000 per unit installed. Prices are rising and have gone up 5% to 10% since 2021)

The bottom line is that while windows greatly enhance the aesthetics of a home, they also serve essential and practical purposes.

This includes providing ventilation, reducing maintenance, increasing value, and conserving energy. Therefore, it pays to investigate installing new windows for a homeowner looking to increase a property’s value and energy efficiency.
